The recent solar eclipse blocked out part of the sun, but none of the fun enjoyed by golfers who turned out for a fundraising event for the Hightstown High School Rams football team.
More than 80 golfers enjoyed 18 holes of golf at the Mercer Oaks course, highlighted by the solar eclipse just as they got to the back nine.
The event, organized by the Hightstown High School Rams Football Parents Club, raised more than $10,000. The money will benefit the football team and student athletes at the high school.
The money will be used to buy decals for the football players’ helmets, as well as for nutritious game-day dinners and Rams college scholarships that are based on academics and service. An equipment donation will be used in the refurbished weight room.
The golfers enjoyed lunch, dinner and beverages, courtesy of John’s Auto Repair, TradeStation, PFS Logistics and Uni-Tel Corp LLC. The event also offered chances on raffle prizes and a silent auction of sports memorabilia.
"We could not have asked for a better day of friendly competition and camaraderie to benefit the Rams football team and all of the student athletes at the high school," said Cory Delgado, president of the Hightstown High School Rams Football Parents Club.
Head Coach Ethan Jeros praised the football booster club and the community for their generosity.
"We have 97 young men taking the field this season, and each can sense the community of support behind them," Jeros said. "We look forward to growing stronger in the weight room, and developing as winners both on and off the field."
