Edison police seized about 350 pounds of marijuana, valued at $1.5 million, shipped to an Edison warehouse from Cincinnati, Ohio, resulting in the arrests of two men on Nov. 8.
According to a statement released by the police department, detectives acted on information from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and quickly went to the warehouse on Clearview Avenue. There, authorities waited for the suspects to claim the illicit cargo — large plastic bins of marijuana — before rushing on to the scene and arresting the pair as they were loading the shipment into a 2005 Ford Taurus wagon.
The action resulted in the arrest of Stanley McDaniel, 43, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Oscar Williams, 30, from Manhattan, N.Y.
Both suspects were sent to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick and were charged with possession of marijuana over 25 pounds, with bail set at $250,000 each. Further investigation from the Edison Police Department and the DEA is ongoing and may result in additional charges.
Police Director Brian Collier said he was proud of the work the department undertook in order to arrest the two men and seize the drugs.
“Our detectives were instrumental in successfully intercepting this large quantity of drugs and removing it from the streets. This is the type of arrest that is indicative of the positive and pro-active direction that the Edison Police Department is heading,” said Collier.
