Nancy Elizabeth Gallagher Depke, a pioneering journalist, political activist, small- business owner, world traveler, bon vivant and lover of the arts, died Thursday in Princeton, N.J. She was 83. Nancy was born in Sandusky, Ohio, studied journalism at Ohio University and began her career at The Cleveland Press. She married John Edwin Depke, a prominent Cleveland reporter in 1960. Nancy also worked as director of marketing for the Cleveland Music School Settlement, the Cleveland Ballet and the Pennsylvania Ballet. In the 1980s, she founded her own PR firm, Depke & Associates. Nancy moved to Princeton 15 years ago and worked as a travel writer. She was an outgoing and intrepid woman and an active member of the Newcomer’s Club of Princeton. She is survived by three daughters and five grandchildren. Those inclined are invited to make donations to Doctors Without Borders or the American Civil Liberties Union.
