Mary C. Henry, resident of Princeton New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 28. She was 101.
Mary’s kind spirit, welcoming demeanor, warm smile, and vivacious personality will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. For those who were blessed to know Mary, there are no words to fully describe the impact she had on their lives. She was truly a special lady who will be greatly missed by all those she loved and who loved her.
Born in England in 1915, Mary was the only daughter of Edwin and Mary Ann Day, who had four children. She graduated from St. Catherine’s College Liverpool, England with a teaching degree in English and History. During World War II, she worked with the British Red Cross Society followed by a short tour in post-war Germany.
In 1947, she met and married her beloved Colin, with whom she lived for 60 wonderful years. Their time together and Colin’s work in the lumber and paper industry took them to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Kansas City, and finally back east to Princeton, where she lived for more than 40 years. There was no greater love than what Colin and Mary had for each other.
She was an avid golfer, belonging to Springdale Golf Club, and a member of Trinity Church. Nothing brought a bigger smile to Mary’s face than attending her weekly church service and hearing the choir sing.
She was preceded in death by her darling Colin; her parents and three brothers: Edwin, Stuart and Albert; and her cherished and only daughter, Ann. She is survived by her dear granddaughter and her husband, Alexandra and Keith, along with several nieces and nephews in England and Canada, and some very dear friends.
A celebration service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 3 at Trinity Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Church Memorial Garden Fund, 33 Mercer Street, Princeton 08540.
