Garrett M. Buhl, age 30

Garrett M. Buhl, age 30 years, died at home in Hillsborough NJ on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, after a battle with mesothelioma. He lived in Flemington most of his life before moving to Hillsborough three years ago.
Born April 28, 1986, in New Brunswick NJ, Garrett was the son of Robin G. Buhl of Raritan Township NJ, and Robert J. Buhl of Flemington NJ. He was a member of the Class of 2004 at Hunterdon Central Regional High School.
A natural athlete, Garrett loved snowboarding, fishing, playing golf, dancing and bowling, where he one time bowled a high score of 286. He enjoyed going to concerts, especially the Dave Matthews Band, and was a big fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets. He travelled the world, visiting many places in the United States and abroad.
While he was sometimes stubborn, Garrett was a great-natured person and a creative genius – he could make a model from nearly any material available to him. While battling his cancer, Garrett was able to train his black lab, Pluto, to perform dozens of tricks and skills. However, Garrett will most be remembered for his great smile – one that could light up a room and bring happiness to those around him.
Garrett is survived by his long term and devoted girlfriend, Kelly Rapolas, who was the love of his life and her large extended family, his mother Robin G. Buhl, his father, Robert J. Buhl, his brother and fiancé, Robert Buhl and Diana Wahl, his sisters, Meredith Okamoto-Buhl and Maile Okamoto, his grandmother, Marion Gwynn of Fort Pierce FL, his uncle and aunt, Bryan and Diane Buhl, his aunt, Susan Darvalics, his aunts and uncles, Carol and Dan Duygo, Dale and Guy Caso, and Kelly and Bill Smith, as well as several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
