Gary DiBenedetto, 68

Hillsborough – Gary DiBenedetto died in his home on May 6, 2017 in Hillsborough NJ after a battle with cancer.  He was 68.
Gary was born on August 30, 1948 in Brooklyn NY to his parents Gaspar and Virginia DiBenedetto.  At age five he moved to New Jersey with his parents, brother and sister and he lived in New Jersey the rest of his life.  He married Althea DiBenedetto in 1984.  He graduated from New York University with a Masters in Performance and Composition in 1993.  Gary and his wife lived in Hillsborough NJ where Gary composed music, taught music lessons, created sculptures and helped family and friends with home improvement projects while Althea taught in Hillsborough Elementary Schools.
Gary’s favorite pastimes included cycling, swimming, boating in Round Valley Reservoir, frequenting restaurant week in Atlantic City, fighting for social justice, exploring art galleries in New York City, playing with his grandchildren and spending time outdoors.  He will be remembered by friends and family for his interesting perspectives, caring nature, compassionate listening, and sense of humor.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Gary is survived by his wife Althea, his children Colin and Heather DiBenedetto of Hillsborough NJ and Amy and Jason McIntyre of Manhattan Beach CA and his four grandchildren.
A private ceremony for immediate family will take place at Neshanic Cemetery this week.  A memorial celebration will take place on Saturday June 24th.
