William D. Wagner, 89, of Cranbury, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Monroe Village Healthcare in Monroe Twp.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, on December 3, 1928, son of Woodrow D. Wagner and Hazel Black Wagner.
He moved to East Brunswick, N.J. in 1930 and attended East Brunswick, South River Schools and Rutgers University. He proudly served during the Korean Conflict, 1950-1952. Attached to the 555th Regimental Combat Team of the U.S. Army, known as the Triple Nickel. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class and receiving the Korean Service Medal Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and United Nations Service Medal.
Bill was retired from the Home News Publishing Company as Vice President and Circulation Director in 1988, having been employed there for 42 years. He was active in circulation matters, having served as President of the New Jersey Association of Circulation Managers. He participated in the American Press Institute, Columbia University Program for Circulation Managers in 1968, as well as the Rutgers University Supervisory Program in 1970. He was a member of the Interstate Circulation Managers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Wagner; two brothers, Robert P. and his wife, Arlene, of Milltown, NJ and Bruce L. and his wife, Diane, of Rockville, MD; many caring nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James R.C. Church, 36 Lincoln Avenue, Jamesburg, NJ 08831.
Interment followed at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick, NJ.
Visitation for friends and family was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the A.S. Cole Son & Co., 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ.
