MCGRAW-HILL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION’S VOICE FOUNDATION DONATES 100 BACKPACKS TO RISE PROGRAM AS PART OF ITS BACK-TO-SCHOOL INITIATIVE

EAST WINDSOR, N.J., September 10, 2018 – For many children, the back-to-school season brings excitement and anticipation complete with a fresh wardrobe and new school supplies. Though, for those less fortunate where resources are spread thin, it can be an unpleasant time of year.
To help do its part as a member of the community, McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union’s VOICE Foundation donated 100 backpacks filled with pens, binders, colored pencils, rulers, markers, and other supplies to Hightstown’s Rise program – a local organization that assists families and individuals recovering from financial setbacks.
The Foundation rallied employees at its East Windsor headquarters to personally pack and hand deliver the backpacks to the Rise offices in nearby Hightstown. The all-volunteer team consisted of credit union employees, VOICE Foundation Board members, and special guest, Officer Michael Grecco of the East Windsor PBA Local 191.
“One of the pillars of the VOICE Foundation is education, and we believe that every child should have a positive outlook on the upcoming school year with the opportunity to grow as an individual,” said VOICE Foundation Chair Joy Beans. “Our desire is that the backpacks and supplies will inspire students and give them a reason to look forward confidently as they embark on their educational journey.”
This is the first year the Foundation has conducted its back-to-school program, but it has a long history of supporting local charities through its fundraising efforts. Each year, the Foundation donates thousands of dollars for the Children’s Miracle Network via its annual ornament fundraiser. Additionally, it has raised more than $500,000 since its inception through its charity golf tournament, casino night, and charity bike ride.
“When you have the commitment of local and national organizations, you get hands-on partners that are equally dedicated to supporting your charitable initiative,” added Beans. “The combination of our community partners, tremendous staff and passionate board, is what helps us make the biggest impact in the community.”
