Rumson-Fair Haven High School defeated Mater Dei Prep, 21-16, in Central Jersey’s “Game of the Week”.
The game in Rumson on Oct. 11 was a battle of two Shore Conference heavyweights.
Rumson-Fair Haven was able to rally to the victory when junior defensive lineman Jack Kelly returned an interception for a touchdown.
Mater Dei led the game early with 25-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Alex Brown, who connected with senior wide receiver Clarence Lewis. Mater Dei added to the team’s early lead with a four-yard rushing touchdown from senior Malik Ingram.
Rumson-Fair Haven responded in the second quarter with a 68-yard rushing touchdown from junior John Volker.
In the second half, Rumson-Fair Haven closed the gap with 32-yard rushing touchdown from sophomore Geoffrey Schroeder.
Rumson-Fair Haven improved to 4-2 with the victory. This week, Rumson-Fair Haven will be at home against Middletown High School South on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
Mater Dei’s loss dropped it to 4-2 on the season. The team’s next game is a home contest against St. Thomas More of Connecticut on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
