The stages are set and the lights are beginning to dim at the Freehold Regional High
School District schools as the fall drama productions get underway.
According to a press release from the school district, students at Howell High School, 405 Squankum-Yellowbrook Road, Howell, will present John Cariani’s “LOVE/SICK,” a collection of nine hilarious short plays. Set on a Friday night in an alternate suburban reality, this romp explores the pain and the joy that comes with being in love. Students at Freehold Township High School, 281 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township, will present “Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play,” a hilarious take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”
In a dim laboratory, a sinister potion of three parts nitroglycerin and two parts petroleum sulphide is being concocted. The result? The answer lies in a classic story about the nature of good and evil retold in a way you never thought possible. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
Students at Marlboro High School, 95 N. Main St. (Route 79), Marlboro, will present “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” a semi-autobiographical play by Neil Simon. The story follows almost 15-year-old Eugene Jerome as he grows up in 1937 Brooklyn. Eugene learns
about girls, family, relationships and the impending war. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Students at Colts Neck High School, 59 Five Points Road, Colts Neck, will present “DNA” (school edition). A group of teenagers do something bad, really bad, then panic and cover up the whole thing. But when they find the cover-up unites them and brings harmony to their otherwise fractious lives, where’s the incentive to put things right? Performances are scheduled for Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. and
7 p.m.
Students at Manalapan High School, 20 Church Lane, Manalapan, will present “Noises Off,” which takes a fond look at the follies of theater folk, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos, memory loss and passionate affairs turn every performance into a high-risk adventure. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Visit www.manalapan.booktix.com for ticket information.
Students at Freehold High School, 2 Robertsville Road, Freehold Borough, will present “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.” It sure is hard to be humble when you’re a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero.
But our gallant guy-in-green tries his best as he swaggers through “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood,” a funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic tale. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Visit www.fhsdac.booktix.com for ticket information.
