The Princeton Council has awarded a contract for $805,213 to Earle Asphalt Co. to replace concrete curbs and sidewalks on Mount Lucas Road and Cherry Hill Road, and a slight realignment to the intersection of Mount Lucas Road and Terhune Road.
A pedestrian refuge island will be installed in the middle of the crosswalk on Terhune Road and Mount Lucas Road. The pedestrian refuge island will be similar to the one at the intersection of Nassau Street and Mercer Street.
Earle Asphalt Co., which is based in Farmingdale, also will replace the concrete curbs on Alexander Street in the vicinity of West Drive, to complement the Mercer County bridge replacement project that is set to begin Nov. 6. Alexander Street will be widened to 34 feet, and a new sidewalk will be constructed.
The contract also calls for storm sewer improvements, roadway reconstruction, new signage, pavement striping and the installation of ADA handicapped accessible ramps.
Earle Asphalt Co.’s bid was the lowest of the three bids received by the town, and deemed to be the “lowest responsive and responsible” bidder. Its bid of $805,213 is $2,863 above the Municipal Engineer’s estimate of $802,350.
Black Rock Enterprise Inc. of Old Bridge submitted a bid of $1.1 million and Top Line Construction Co. of Somerville submitted a bid of $821,902 for the projects.
