SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council introduced an ordinance authorizing the borough to purchase a small parcel located in the parking lot of the old Laffin building.
Borough Administrator Arthur Londensky said the property, located at 7 Main St., used to be an auto dealership and auto repair facility. He said the parcel is owned by the county and is approximately 40 by 85 square feet.
The council introduced the ordinance on Oct. 21.
The borough and county plan to redevelop the property. The county has established $25,000 as the fair market value for the property, according to the council agenda.
In related news, the council also introduced an ordinance authorizing the borough to sell the property located at 7 Main St. to Brothers Builders PJ LLC.
“The property owner has requested conveyance of the land so that it may develop the entire parcel,” Londensky said. “The county conveyed the property to the borough so that it may convey the property to the developer/property owner.”
Londensky said the transfer is at fair market value as determined by the county.
The adjoining property owner, Brothers Builders, has agreed to purchase the property from the borough for $25,000.
Londensky said the property owner plans on redeveloping the property into a food market.
