The South River Board of Education approved a request authorizing the creation of a boys’ volleyball program at South River High School.
Athletic Director Carl Buffalino said the club team was formed as a result of approximately 15 students showing interest.
The program will begin playing this coming spring season, according to Buffalino. The athletic director also explained that the club team could eventually lead to a varsity team.
Scholastic boys’ volleyball teams compete in the spring season in New Jersey.
The school presently fields a girls’ volleyball team that plays during the fall season.
With an unanimous vote, the board approved the request on Nov. 25 during the Board of Education meeting at the South River High School’s Media Center.
