FREEHOLD – Two contracts that total $162,821 have been awarded by the Borough Council for a project that will result in the installation of lights at the Little League baseball complex on Otterson Road in Freehold Borough.
On Dec. 2, council members awarded a $93,421 contract to Musco Sports Lighting, Oskaloosa, Iowa, to purchase the lights. Council members awarded a $69,400 contract to John J. Faccas Inc. (Quality Electrical Construction), Hazlet, to install the lights.
Officials said Quality Electrical Construction was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder. A bid for the job was also received from Kane Communications, LLC, ($100,892).
The project to install lights at the Little League fields came from Freehold Borough’s participatory budgeting initiative. The initiative allows business owners and residents age 14 and older to nominate and vote for projects they want to fund in the community.
Municipal officials have said the projects that are selected are funded within the municipal budget and do not increase a property owner’s tax bill.
The project to install lights was presented by resident Robert Sive, who said lighting the Little League fields would allow weekday games to be played in the evening and place Freehold Borough’s youth baseball league on par with leagues in other towns.
In other business, the council awarded contracts to three vendors for the purchase of road maintenance materials.
The materials will be provided by RWV Land & Livestock South Inc., Stavola Construction Materials Inc. and Walter R. Earle Companies.
RMV Land & Livestock South will provide ice controlling sand at $17.73 per ton, type 5 soil at $16.36 per ton and clean fill dirt at $12.37 per ton.
Stavola Construction Materials will provide high performance cold patch at $160 per ton and stabilized base I-2 paving material at $69 per ton.
Walter R. Earle Companies will provide fine aggregate bituminous concrete I-5 at $72 per ton.
And, council members awarded a $63,316 contract to Chas S. Winner Inc. (Winner Ford), Cherry Hill, for the purchase of two law enforcement vehicles.
