Students asked to be Freeholder for a Day through essay contest

Middlesex County is sponsoring an essay contest open to eighth, 11th and 12th graders, allowing them to explore the role freeholders play in governing Middlesex County.

Through March 4, students can submit ideas that explain what they would do if they were Freeholder for a Day. One eighth grade winner will receive a $250 scholarship, while an 11th and 12th grade winner will each win a $500 scholarship.

In their essays, students must answer the question: “If you were a Middlesex County freeholder, what would you want to accomplish and why?” A successful response will demonstrate that the writer understands the role and responsibilities of a Middlesex County freeholder. Students must describe a challenge or opportunity they would focus on as a freeholder and identify a program they would champion or implement to make their idea a reality.
