OLD BRIDGE – The Old Bridge School District has kicked off two campaigns in efforts to maintain a sense of normalcy and community as distance learning continues in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Staff members at each school – Old Bridge High School; Carl Sandburg Middle School; Jonas Salk Middle School; and the Carpenter, Cooper, Grissom, McDivitt, Madison Park, Memorial, Miller, Schirra, Shepard, Southwood and Voorhees elementary schools – are providing a photo/video of their front door with clues for students to guess who their mystery neighbor is each day.
“It’s a great way for teachers, staff to reach out to their students and let them know they are thinking about them,” Schools Superintendent David Cittadino said during a school board meeting on April 16.
The district is also working with the township’s TV studio to put together a public service announcement similar to what other townships are doing in terms of why residents are staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We put a spin on it with reference of Dorothy and the ‘Wizard of Oz’ … ‘There’s no place like home in Old Bridge because…’,” Cittadino said, adding he has already received videos from students.
