Hit and run accident leads to drug charges

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — South Brunswick police officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Ridge Road near Julia Way around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 to find a 2014 Hyundai Accent in the roadway while the second vehicle allegedly fled the area.

An investigation determined the Accent, which was driven by Wilma Davis, 70, of South Brunswick, was headed west on Ridge Road when a 2006 Silver Nissan Pathfinder headed eastbound on Ridge Road crossed over and struck the Accent, according to South Brunswick police.

Davis was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick by South Brunswick EMS due to chest pains from the crash.

The driver of the Pathfinder, Ryan Tiedemann, 30, of Dayton, allegedly fled the scene.

South Brunswick Police Officer Gerald Sarno and Officer Oscar Ayala reportedly located Tiedemann’s vehicle in a nearby office complex, officials said.

South Brunswick Police Officer William Beard located multiple hypodermic syringes in the sewer drain, according to reports.

Officers purportedly located Tiedemann inside one of the offices. They determined Tiedemann was allegedly under the influence the drugs, and reportedly recovered a large piece of plastic tubing and heroin folds inside of Tiedemann’s shoes, police said.

Tiedemann was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic needle, driving while under the influence, hindering apprehension, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and numerous other motor vehicle violations.

He was released on a summons pending his first court appearance.
