“The increased number of positive residents combined with a significant increase in people being hospitalized around the state has us urging residents to wear face masks, use social distancing and limit crowd sizes,” Office of Emergency Management Director and South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said in a prepared statement on Nov. 16.
Township Manager Bernard P. Hvozdovic Jr. added, “As the situation continues to develop we will be sending out more frequent emails on the virus trend locally, testing locations, and any changes in state regulations or guidelines.”
Township officials also learned of one new death, a man in his 70s.
South Brunswick Township currently has 724 cases of residents who have tested positive, according to the statement. This number reflects both residents and people living in long-term care facilities within the township.
Statewide, 2,115 people have currently been hospitalized due to COVID, a steady weekly increase since Sept. 21, when 349 individuals were hospitalized for COVID-19 throughout New Jersey.
The number of hospitalizations for the past week has increased by approximately 47%, according to the statement.
UPDATED STATE GUIDELINES
- INDOOR/OUTDOOR – Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Nov. 16 that he is signing an executive order to drop New Jersey’s limit of people allowed to gather indoors from 25 to 10 people, effective 6 a.m. Nov. 17; and outdoors from 500 to 150 people, effective Nov. 23.
- SPORTS INDOORS – For indoor sports practices and games, teams will be allowed to exceed the 10-person limit only for people who are necessary for competition, i.e. players, coaches and referees. In most cases, Murphy said, spectators will not be permitted at indoor events when the cap is exceeded.
- SPORTS OUTDOORS – For outdoor sports practices and games, the 150-person limit includes players, coaches, team personnel and officials. Murphy said that means the number of spectators allowed will be lower than 150.
- RELIGIOUS SERVICES – Indoor religious services and celebrations, political activities, weddings, funerals and memorial services, and performances in New Jersey will continue to be limited to 25% of capacity but with a maximum of 150 people.
- DINNING – Indoor dining will also remain limited to 25% capacity, Murphy said.
