East Windsor COVID cases continue to increase

The second wave of COVID-19 has begun to wash over East Windsor, as the number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 1,070 since March, as of Dec. 2, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

The monthly tally of positive cases of COVID-19 in East Windsor, which has a population of 27,288 people, peaked at 309 cases in April, but began to taper off in May when 72 cases were reported.

There were 26 cases in June and 22 cases in July. Positive cases of COVID-19 held steady at 11 cases each in August and September.

But in October, there were 64 cases of COVID-19, and the number has spiked to 268 cases in November. There were 25 cases in the first two days of December, the New Jersey Department of Health reported.

Mercer County reported 14,170 positive cases of COVID-19 and 628 deaths as of Dec. 2. Mercer County has a population of 372,229 people.

Those numbers are indicative of the rising number of new cases of COVID-19 in Mercer County and across the state and the nation, Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes said. In some communities, the daily case reports are the highest that they have been since the pandemic started, he said.

Hughes said pandemic fatigue is contributing to the sharp increase of illnesses – and that’s why it is crucial that all Mercer County residents remain vigilant and take precautions to slow down the spread of the virus.

Hughes urged residents to wear a mask when they are around people outside of their immediate household. The mask should cover the mouth and nose. Practice social distancing, and wash one’s hands frequently, he said.
