Wreaths placed at 650 gravesites in Elmwood Cemetery before the holidays

Elmwood Cemetery in North Brunswick participated in Wreaths Across America for the third year, respectfully placing a wreath at the gravesite of all 650 veterans laid to rest in the cemetery.

Corporate sponsors, local community volunteer organizations, friends and family contributed by making donations to purchase wreaths for veterans.

Because of safety restrictions due to the pandemic, the military wreath laying and veterans wreaths were placed over the course of several days from Dec. 15-20. Volunteers scheduled times to place wreaths so that social distancing and gathering limitations were followed at all times.

The mid-December snowstorm placed addition challenges, but the community came together and remembered the veterans, honoring each one wreath at a time.

The quote of the day came from a volunteer who said, “Our vets didn’t quit when the going got tough, and I’m not quitting on them.”
