Edison reports 49 new COVID-19 cases; Clara Barton’s annual Yard Sale April 24

EDISON – Edison officials reported 49 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of cases to 8,138, according to the Edison Office of Emergency Management on March 27.

The age range of the cases are from 2-93. The township has lost 329 residents to COVID-19, according to Middlesex County.

Vaccinations and COVID-19 testing

The New Jersey Convention and Expo Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., is one of the state’s six mega vaccine sites.

Volunteers are working ’round the clock’ to help schedule COVID-19 vaccinations for fellow residents through the Edison Community Vaccine Help group. The spring fire hydrant flushing program begins March 30 in the areas of Michelle Circle and Suttons Lane. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Daily updates on the areas that will be flushed will be updated on the Edison Water Utility’s website at Edisonwaterutility.org by 3:30 p.m. the day prior to flushing. Due to COVID-19, the Edison Fire Marshal’s Office has suspended all in person residential inspections for the Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Detector and Fire Extinguisher Compliance. In lieu of the inspections and accordance with the New Jersey Fire Code, the office is accepting an affidavit for inspection. The Edison Public main library at 340 Plainfield Ave., reopened on July 13. Patrons must wear face masks. Gov. Phil Murphy announced public libraries are allowed to reopen on July 2 with 25% capacity.

The reopening of the north branch library at 777 Grove Ave. began on July 27 and the Clara Barton branch at 141 Hoover Ave. followed. Hours vary at each site. For more information contact [email protected].

The Edison Public Library has launched a COVID memory project. Residents are welcome to share their experiences during the coronavirus through a questionnaire and any images and videos documenting experiences. Many businesses can now be open at 50% of capacity including restaurants, recreational and amusement operations, gyms and fitness clubs, barber shops and salons and other personal care businesses. Indoor gathering limits are increased to 25 from 10 and outdoor gathering limits are increased to 50 from 25 for any events other than religious services, political events, weddings and funerals which have already been assigned higher limits of 35% of capacity for indoors and a 150 maximum count for outdoors.

The township has resumed the collection of cardboard from outside of the recycling container on regular recycling days.

Edison Township was not provided any other information regarding the new cases.
