EAST BRUNSWICK–Wanting to help those suffering in India affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Township Council approved a resolution authorizing a donation of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to the country.
“The donation of PPE that’s considered from our Office of Emergency Management (OEM) director is stocked up and we are going to be looking to donate face masks, shields and gowns that we don’t think we’re going to need,” Mayor Brad Cohen said.
The council approved a resolution authorizing the donation on May 10 during the council meeting via video conference.
With help from Councilman Dinesh Behal, Cohen said he was able to contact the New Jersey Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (New Jersey State AAPI), which has contacts in Delhi, India.
“We’re looking to make a donation to the folks in India who are severely suffering as a result of the pandemic in India right now,” Cohen said. “I’m sure all of you have seen that all over the news and we’re trying to do our part with this stock that we don’t believe we’re going to need and that donation is being made tonight.”
Cohen said he wanted to thank Behal and his associates for making that available, residents who have donated, and John Kosick who manages the township’s OEM department.
