The Metuchen Parade Commission partnered with the Metuchen Arts Council and volunteer judges to present the annual Memorial Day Art Contest in a new format this year.

The patriotic posters were created by students in Grades 1-8 at Campbell Elementary School, Edgar Middle School and St. Francis Cathedral School.

First, second and third place were awarded for each grade.

“The Metuchen Arts Council has been such a great partner to the parade program,” said Patricia Lucas-Schnarre, a member of the borough’s Parade Commission. “We never did a virtual gallery before. With COVID, we had to make everything digital.”

The contest is a Metuchen tradition that honors those who have served our country. The team of judges selected winners from each grade and one overall winner.

The virtual gallery is organized by grade, with each grade having its own room in the gallery. The gallery is new this year and was created in response to the pandemic by Metuchen High School student volunteer, Sammie.
