Messiah Lutheran Church installs Blessing Box

SAYREVILLE – Messiah Lutheran Church has a new addition to its property: a Blessing Box is now located in the front parking lot by the main sign, filled with non-perishable foods and supplies ready for anyone who has fallen on hard times and needs a little extra help.

The outdoor box is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Make sure the box is closed and latched after use.

Messiah has been running a Community Food Pantry for 40 years through the generosity of its members and others from the neighboring area, according to information provided by Edna Pilch.

No one is turned away; no church affiliation or ID required.

The church will continue to run its indoor food pantry, which is open on the second Tuesday of the month from 6-8 p.m., as well as the third Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

In order to keep both the indoor pantry and the Blessing Box full, a monthly food drive for non-perishable, unexpired items or monetary donations will be held the last Saturday of each month in front of the church from noon until 2 p.m.

Anyone wishing to give outside of those hours may do so during indoor pantry hours.

There will also be a donation bin next to the outdoor Blessing Box for dropped-off items.

For more information, call 732-721-8493.

The church is located at 3091 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville.
