Hillsborough Township to celebrate 250th anniversary this weekend

Get ready for a night of family fun to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Hillsborough Township.

In conjunction with Hillsborough’s annual Family Fun Day and Independence Day Celebration, the township will be holding a community-wide celebration to honor Hillsborough being around for 250 years on June 26 at Auten Road Intermediate School.

Live music, food, games, and many more attractions will be accessible for residents at the event, which will last from 5-10 p.m and culminate with a fireworks show.

Providing the live entertainment for the event will The Frontiers, a Journey tribute band.

Parking for the event will be available at Hillsborough High School and Hillsborough Middle School where a free shuttle service will be available for residents to take to the event.

As part of the 250th extravaganza will be the History of Hillsborough diorama contest. Participants were tasked with creating a diorama that depicted any point in time of the 250 years of Hillsborough being in existence. Dioramas could be made individually or as part of a group, business or organization.

All dioramas entered in the contest will be on display at Hillsborough’s 250th birthday celebration and will be judged based on age group, group dioramas, Residents’ Choice, and Mayor’s Choice.

Age groups will be separated into three different ranges, 12 years old and under, 13-18 years old, and people over the age of 18.

The winners will be honored at the Hillsborough Township Committee Meeting on July 18, according to Township Clerk Pamela Borek.

This will not be the only event to celebrate the 250th birthday of Hillsborough as Borek said the township is planning on hosting a parade to honor Hillsborough’s 250 years of history later this year.

The rain date for the Hillsborough 250th birthday celebration is June 27.
