Princeton University alum will row for Australian Olympic team

An athlete from the Princeton University Class of 2015 has been named to the Australian Olympic Rowing Team.

Tim Masters will row in the eight for Australia in his first career Olympic event, according to information provided by Princeton University.

He is the fourth men’s heavyweight alumni to be named to an team, joining Fred Vystavel ’16 (Denmark), Nick Mead ’17 (United States), Tom George ’18 (Great Britain).

“It’s been impressive watching Tim’s growth, progress, and development over this quadrennial, and I am thrilled to see him earn an opportunity to race in Tokyo,” Princeton Coach Greg Hughes said in the statement. “He’s worked hard, stayed tough and focused through COVID-19 and his attitude through it all has been inspiration.”

On the international level, Masters helped Australia secure a silver medal at the 2018 World Rowing Championships. He also earned gold medals in the in the four at 2019 World Cup Two and Three along with silvers at the 2017 and 2018 World Rowing Cup 3, according to the statement.

At Princeton, Masters stroked the V8 to a bronze medal at the 2015 IRA Championships, the team’s first V8 medal since 2006. The V8 also won bronze at Eastern Sprints and helped the Tigers win the Rowe Cup for the first time in 2005. Masters also earned a bronze medal at Easterns in 2014, according to the statement.
