SAYREVILLE – April Magistro has been named the first pre-kindergarten principal in the Sayreville School District.
On July 20, the Board of Education approved Magistro’s transfer to becoming principal of the Cheesequake Preschool. Her appointment will be effective during the 2021-22 school year (July 21, 2021, through June 30, 2022), after which she may be reappointed by the board.
According to district administrators, she will receive a salary of $124,583.
Prior to being named principal of the Cheesequake Preschool, Magistro was the supervisor of instruction for early childhood education.
The Cheesequake Preschool is located in Old Bridge and uses the former Cheesequake Elementary School facility, which is owned by the Old Bridge School District. After the elementary school closed, Sayreville entered into a shared services agreement with Old Bridge in 2020 to lease the building for a 10-year period.
As previously reported, Sayreville administrators are seeking to use the Cheesequake facility for a pre-kindergarten program.
“I think that we [the administrators] are absolutely blessed to recommend hiring Ms. Magistro as our very first preschool principal in the Sayreville Public Schools,” Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe said during the meeting. “Ms. Magistro welcomed the opportunity to become this principal.
“If you’ve ever met or worked with Ms. Magistro, the first thing that you are completely taken aback by is her energy,” he said. “She is one of the most positive, energetic people I’ve ever met. Moreover, she is the one of the most competent and expert leaders in our district. I couldn’t think of anyone that I would want to lead our 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds at the Cheesequake School than Ms. Magistro.”
With Magistro vacating her position as the supervisor of instruction for early childhood education, board members approved transferring Pamela Schleck to succeed her. Schleck previously served as the supervisor for elementary education.
According to district administrators, Schleck will receive a salary of $105,503 as the supervisor of instruction. Her appointment will also be effective during the 2021-22 school year (July 21, 2021, through June 30, 2022), after which she may be reappointed by the board.
Succeeding Schleck as the supervisor of elementary education for grades 2-5 will be Allison Francis, whose hiring was approved by board members at the meeting. Her appointment will be effective from Aug. 9, 2021, through June 30, 2022, after which she may be reappointed, and she will receive a prorated salary of $104,303, according to district administrators.
Alongside the other new administrators, board members approved the hiring of Jillian Flanigan to the new position of personnel services coordinator. She will receive a prorated salary of $70,000, according to district administrators, and her appointment will be effective from Aug. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022, after which she may be reappointed.
