New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 3 miles of aging water main in Red Bank, Rumson and Fair Haven starting this month.
The company will upgrade the aging 18-inch cast iron water lines that were installed in
the 1900s with new 16-inch ductile iron main along River Road from Harrison Avenue
in Red Bank through Fair Haven to Bingham Avenue in Rumson, according to a press release.
The project includes replacing 25 fire hydrants and 250 utility owned service lines along the pipeline route.
“We are pleased to replace nearly 3 miles of aging main in Fair Haven, Red Bank and Rumson in collaboration with Fair Haven and Rumson’s streetscaping improvement projects,” said Joseph Meyer, senior manager of field operations.
“Replacing these water mains will improve the delivery of water service to our
customers and will strengthen our system for the future,” Meyer said.
According to the company, this $5.8 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in these communities.
The improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached or is nearing the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
New Jersey American Water’s local contractor, CRJ Contracting Inc., will begin work on or about Aug. 23 and expects to be completed by mid-December, weather permitting, according to the press release.
There will be two crews working, starting at either end of the project limits and working toward the middle. Work hours in the towns are as follows:
• Fair Haven: Between Hance Road and Buena Vista Avenue: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday night
through Friday morning to alleviate traffic restrictions; between Hance Road and Lake Avenue: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Rumson: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Red Bank: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“We are coordinating this project with Monmouth County so we can upgrade this
important section of water main in our system prior to the scheduled paving of this
road in 2022,” Meyer said.
Traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
Detour information will be provided on the company’s Alerts page and updated weekly. Businesses along the project route will remain open during construction, according to the press release.
