A contract has been awarded by the Borough Council for the second phase of improvements to a Fair Haven road.
During a recent meeting, council members awarded a $301,925 contract to Fernandes Construction, Monroe Township, for the second phase of improvements to Hance Road and Cooney Terrace.
Fernandes Construction was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder, according to a resolution.
Other bids were received from Lima Charlie Construction, Tinton Falls, ($394,394); Seacoast Inc., East Brunswick, ($394,131); S. Brothers Inc., Manalapan, ($379,227); Fiore Paving Company Inc., Oceanport, ($342,936); and Earle Asphalt Company, Howell, ($313,313).
After reviewing the bids, Borough Engineer Richard Gardella and Borough Attorney Greg Cannon recommended that Fernandes Construction receive the contract.
According to the resolution, Fair Haven was previously awarded a $350,000 municipal aid grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to help cover the cost of the improvements to Hance Road and Cooney Terrace.
Borough Council President Christopher Rodriguez and council members Meghan Chrisner-Keefe, Elizabeth Koch, Michael McCue and Suzanne McCabe voted “yes” on a motion to award the contract. Councilwoman Laline Neff was absent from the meeting.
A final payment has been awarded by the Borough Council for a road improvement project in Eatontown.
On Dec. 8, council members authorized a $21,982 decrease in a contract for the Industrial Way West improvements project. The contract was awarded to Meco Inc. in 2020.
According to a resolution, the contract was originally in an amount not to exceed $251,763. An initial change order was an increase not to exceed $66,374, which brought the contract amount to $318,137.
With the recent authorization of the $21,982 decrease, the contract now totals $296,155. According to the resolution, the final payment for the project was $101,687.
In other business, the council members approved a body-worn camera grant from the state in the amount of $101,900. The grant was added to the 2021 municipal budget.
The council’s action followed a state mandate signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in November 2020 that requires all police officers in New Jersey to wear a body camera. Police departments were required to comply with the mandate by June.
A Tinton Falls man has been found guilty by a state Superior Court jury, sitting in Freehold, in connection with the 2017 possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials and invasion of privacy, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced.
Robert Mack, 35, was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child, distribution of child sexual abuse material, possession of child sexual abuse material and invasion of privacy, according to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
A 2017 investigation by the prosecutor’s office, the New Jersey ICAC Task Force and the Tinton Falls Police Department determined Mack was downloading and sharing child sexual abuse materials from a computer at his residence in Tinton Falls, according to the press release.
Mack was also in possession of hard drives containing child sexual abuse materials. Further investigation determined Mack also had videos of an adult female with her intimate body parts exposed without her permission, according to the press release.
Mack, who was indicted in October 2018, will face more than 10 years in state prison when he is sentenced by Superior Court Judge Lourdes Lucas on Feb. 14.
The Middletown Arts Center has announced the formation of the MAC Players, the organization’s new community theater company for adults/young adults age 15 and up.
Led by Theater Education Director Kathy Connolly, the group will kick off its first season in 2022 with “Shrek The Musical” on March 3, 4, 5 and 12, according to a press release.
Auditions for “Shrek The Musical” will be held on Jan. 8 from 1-7 p.m. Callbacks will be on Jan. 9 from noon to 5 p.m. Participants must prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show and 32 bars of a song of choice showing range.
All auditions will be performed at the Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church St., Middletown (next to the train station). Free parking is available onsite with additional free parking available in the train station metered lot on weekday evenings after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
