Antunes resigns from Hillsborough superintendent of schools position

After a four-month sabbatical, Dr. Lisa Antunes is no longer superintendent of the Hillsborough Township Public School District.

The Hillsborough Township Board of Education (HBOE) approved the resignation of Antunes at its board meeting on April 25.

Antunes’ resignation will officially go into effect on May 1 as stated by HBOE President Paul
Marini.

The HBOE will now begin an extensive search for a new superintendent to officially replace Antunes. Acting Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kim Feltre, will continue to fill the role for the time being.

Antunes was unanimously selected by the HBOE in 2020 to become the school district’s new superintendent of schools. She had previously twice held the role of acting superintendent of schools in Hillsborough, first in 2007 and in the fall of 2019.

Antunes was first hired in Hillsborough in 2005 as the assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.

Before working in Hillsborough, Antunes served as assistant superintendent in Jefferson Township.

Antunes first stepped away from her post in December during an internal audit of the school district’s finances, which has since been taken over by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

All of this came on the heels of former Business Administrator/HBOE Secretary Aiman Mahmoud abruptly resigning from his post on Dec. 20.

His assistant, Luisa Rodriguez, also ended up resigning from her position as assistant business administrator in January.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office investigations into the school district’s finances and business operations is still ongoing.
