The following area residents recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Ryan Benedict of Englishtown, Michael Bond of Freehold, Samantha Gottlieb of Freehold, Aiden Steuerman of Manalapan and Anthony Cuccurullo of Marlboro. The students were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi at The College of New Jersey, Ewing Township.
Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa., has inducted Ande Balla of Freehold into its chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi honor society. Ande, who is a graduate of Freehold Township High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in music and music education. Students of Sigma Alpha Pi are selected for induction based on their grade point average and level of involvement.
Haiyang Wang of Morganville, a student at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., has received the Fall 2021 semester Dean’s Award with Distinction. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher while completing at least three courses for a conventional letter grade earned the award. Haiyang is a computer science major at Colgate and is a graduate of Wardlaw-Hartridge School, Edison.
The following students have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honor society, through the Delta of New Jersey chapter at The College of New Jersey, Ewing Township: from Freehold – Megan Drum, Samantha Gottlieb and Erin Obermayer; and from Manalapan – Yash Valia.
University of Mount Union, Alliance, Ohio, students were acknowledged at the institution’s Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation. Kyle Moore of Marlboro was awarded Alpha Lambda Delta Senior Certificate and All-Ohio Athletic Conference Outstanding Academic Status at the 2022 Mount Union Honors Convocation. Senior Certificates are awarded from the National Office of Alpha Lambda Delta and go to those senior members of Alpha Lambda Delta who have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average. Moore plays football at the University of Mount Union.
The Montclair State University Department of Athletics held its National Student-Athlete Day Celebration on April 25. The event recognized the members of the 3.0 Club along with the induction of the newest class into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. In addition, the Highest GPA award and Team GPA awards were presented, along with the Scholar-Athlete Team, which featured a student-athlete from each program. The following area residents were among the honorees: Ben Levine of Manalapan, Justin Goldberg of Manalapan, Ali Cavallaro of Morganville, Sam Howard of Marlboro, Ashley Angiolini of Freehold and Laura Noseworthy of Freehold.
Victoria Caruso of Freehold was among 45 students at the University of Scranton, Pa., who were recently inducted into Phi Lambda Upsilon, the national honorary chemical society. The university’s chapter of the honor society was established in 1975. Victoria is a senior biology major at the Jesuit university.
