Most people recover from COVID-19 within two weeks. Yet some do not. For some, about 10% according to recent estimates, long-term health issues like extreme fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, joint pain, anxiety and heart palpitations remain for weeks or even longer. This is referred to as long haul COVID.

As a result, Hackensack Meridian Health is now hosting a support group for individuals who have long haul COVID to meet virtually, twice a month, so patients with lingering symptoms know they are not alone, according to a press release.

The long haul support group provides an opportunity for individuals to share personal experiences, feelings and coping strategies in a secure setting overseen by medical professionals.

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore closed out a successful 2022 Cookie Season despite facing challenges due to the nationwide supply chain issues that affected their baker.

More than 7,400 girl-led cookie businesses thrived with online and in-person booths and navigated the challenges of nationwide supply chain issues, according to a press release.

This year, Girl Scouts in Monmouth and Ocean counties sold cookies in person and online to
sell almost one million boxes of cookies.

For more than 100 years, the Cookie Program continues to be the largest entrepreneurial skill development program in the world. Every Girl Scout Cookie purchase fuels local Girl Scout adventures throughout the year, according to the press release.

When faced with the issue of delayed cookie deliveries for in-person cookie sales, girl
entrepreneurs showed their resilience and focused on marketing their online business, helping thousands of girls reach their goals to raise funds for community programs and outdoor adventures. 100% of the net profits from Girl Scout cookie sales stays in local communities, according to the press release.

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore will donate excess cookie inventory to food pantries in
Monmouth and Ocean counties. The donation program allows Girl Scout customers to buy
cookies and then donate them to important local causes including food pantries, programs that serve people who are homeless and to senior centers.

The Triumph Brewing Company in Red Bank and the Greater Red Bank Women’s
Initiative Immigration Committee recently hosted a fundraiser for the Summer of Dreams.

The Summer of Dreams is an educational and cultural experience that connects Brookdale Community College Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students with their heritage, according to a press release.

This year, five Brookdale students will participate in the three-week program in Mexico that consists of classes, museums and family gatherings. Upon their return, the students will write a paper recounting their experiences. These papers will be published in one of the
college’s publications.

Students who have participated in similar programs have said it was a life-changing experience for them. Many of the participants came to the United States as very young
children and because of their immigration status they never saw their families again nor
know of their cultural heritage, according to the press release.

The Summer of Dreams has given the participants a new perspective on who they are and
a new feeling of what they can contribute to their American families and the culture at
large, according to the press release.

The students participate in fundraising activities. They need approximately $3,575 for room, board, educational activities and $575 for a fee payment to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services for a one-time travel permit.

To assist the students, contact Yartiza Ortega by email at [email protected] to find out more about the Summer of Dreams.
