MONROE – The Monroe Township Public Library will temporarily close this week.
Construction crews will prepare for the installation of the building’s new air conditioning system. The library will be closed to patrons and staff from June 13-17.
Though the building will be physically closed, many services will remain accessible.
The library’s website is available 24/7 to download audiobooks, eBooks and magazines, or stream movies, music and TV shows to one’s phone, tablet or computer.
Book drops will be open at the Community Recreation Center, in the parking lot of the Senior Center, as well as the slot in the drive-thru lane at the library. All overdue fines will be waived during the library’s closure.
The event calendar on the library’s website will be updated with program information as changes are confirmed for events that were previously scheduled. Some programs will switch from in-person to virtual and others – Boheme Opera NJ – will move to a different venue on the same date and time.
Patrons may visit any member library in the Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium to borrow materials and return them in Monroe Township.
The Bookmobile will be off the road and service at the drive-thru window will be unavailable.
Upgrade to library
In 2017, the New Jersey residents voted on the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act. The goal of the bond act was to upgrade public library facilities with a 1:1 match of state and local dollars.
The Monroe Township Library was selected as one of 38 grant recipients out of 129 applicants. Phase I of the project was completed in March 2022 with the installation of a new boiler.
The new air conditioning unit is Phase II.
