Deadline to file for Princeton school board nears

Time is running out for candidates to file nominating petitions to serve on the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education.

The deadline to file a nominating petition is 4 p.m. July 25. The petition, which must be signed by at least 10 registered voters who live in Princeton, must be handed over to the Mercer County Clerk’s Office in Trenton.

The school board election is Nov. 8. The term is for three years.

At stake are the seats held by Deborah Bronfeld, Susan Kanter and Dafna Kendal. All are seeking re-election.

Bronfeld is running for her third term on the school board.

She chairs the Equity and Personnel committees and also serves on the Operations and Student Achievement committees.

Bronfeld has lived in Princeton since 1998. Her sons graduated from Princeton High School.

Kanter is running for her second term.

She chairs the Operations Committee and serves on the Equity, Policy, Long Term Planning and Student Achievement committees.

Kanter, whose children are graduates of Princeton High School, has lived in Princeton for more than 20 years.

Kendal is seeking a third term on the school board. She served one term from 2016-2018. She was elected to a second, non-consecutive term in 2019.

Kendal serves on the Equity, Personnel and Student Achievement committees. She is an alternate member of the Long-Term Planning Committee.

She has lived in Princeton since 2011. Her son graduated from Princeton High School and her daughter is a freshman at the high school.

Candidates for school board must be at least 18 years old, be able to read and write and hold U.S. citizenship.

They must have lived in the school district for at least one year and be registered to vote in the town they seek to represent on the school board.

They may not have an interest in, or hold a claim against, the school board. They may not serve on the municipal governing body, and they may be disqualified from holding office because of conviction of certain crimes.

Nominating petitions and the school board packet are available through the Mercer County Clerk’s Office under the “Elections” tab, at www.mercercounty.org.
