Two men from Ireland – ages 24 and 19 – were charged with fleeing the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash on Middlesex Avenue July 29. Witnesses told police that the occupants of one of the vehicles had allegedly fled the scene on foot. After canvassing the area and a short foot chase, Officer Laurel Louis and Sgt. Joseph Keane were able to locate the individuals. The 24-year-old man was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. The 19-year-old man was charged with hindering, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and numerous motor vehicle violations.
Police charged a 59-year-old Bronx, N.Y., man with stealing a 2022 Yamaha Monster dirt bike valued at approximately $9,000, from Action Yamaha on Essex Avenue July 27. The man entered the local business and allegedly provided employees with a fraudulent Pennsylvania driver’s license and a fraudulent bank check. In return, the individual took possession of the dirt bike. After an extensive investigation, police charged the New York man with theft, forgery and using a false government document. The East Hanover Police Department assisted Metuchen police with the case. Police have not located the dirt bike as of yet.
Someone allegedly attempted to enter an Ayers Court residence July 24. The resident was watching television in his bedroom when he was alerted to someone attempting to gain access to his home through the rear sliding door attached to his bedroom. The resident immediately called 911 and when he approached the door, the alleged burglar fled the scene. During the investigation, police learned another residence had also been targeted, however, the suspect(s) were unable to pry open the rear door. Surveillance in the area showed a dark colored Mercedes SUV that may be involved in the criminal attempts. If anyone has any information regarding the case, contact Detective James A. Someone allegedly entered a Clinton Place residence between July 15-19, ransacked the bedrooms and stole electronics and jewelry. Someone allegedly entered a Durham Avenue home, ransacked the residence and stole jewelry and cash July 6. The home, which is located between Central and Jersey avenues, was burglarized during daytime hours. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. James Keane at 732-632-8561.
