A 22-year-old Lawrence Township man faces multiple charges after he allegedly fired a weapon at a pedestrian who was walking on the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park trail, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
The pedestrian was not injured in the incident on Aug. 24, police said.
The man who allegedly shot at the pedestrian was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, police said. Additional charges are pending.
The victim told police that he was walking on the trail around 9 a.m. when he was allegedly shot at by an unknown person. The incident took place on the trail adjacent to the footbridge that connects the trail system over Brunswick Pike, north of Bakers Basin Road, police said.
Police officers who responded to the scene heard the sound of gunfire from the same wooded area. Multiple spent .22-caliber shell casings were found during the initial investigation, police said.
The man was apprehended, processed and taken to the Mercer County Correction Center.
