EATONTOWN – The members of the Borough Council in Eatontown have authorized a temporary access and construction easement at the intersection of Tinton Avenue and Taylor Place for the installation and maintenance of water mains that will service Eatontown, Oceanport, Tinton Falls and the Fort Monmouth property.
During a meeting on Aug. 24, council members adopted an ordinance that authorized the conveyance of the temporary easement to New Jersey American Water at a vacant property at the intersection of Tinton Avenue (Route 537) and Taylor Place. The property is owned by Eatontown and is near residential properties on those streets.
The property is divided into four lots, two of which are on Tinton Avenue and two of which are on Taylor Place. The temporary access and construction easement was granted to New Jersey American Water on all four lots, according to the ordinance.
A perpetual/permanent easement was also granted to New Jersey American Water on two of the lots: the Tinton Avenue and Taylor Place lots that border the intersection.
According to the ordinance, representatives of New Jersey American Water requested that the borough convey a 20-foot wide temporary access and construction easement in connection with the property for the purpose of installing, maintaining, inspecting, removing, repairing, replacing and adding from time to time pipe or pipes, including laterals (water mains), for the transmission and distribution of water.
The water will service Eatontown, Tinton Falls and Oceanport, and the Fort Monmouth property, which is surrounded by the three municipalities.
Representatives of New Jersey American Water also asked Eatontown officials to convey a 30-foot wide permanent easement for the purpose of installing, operating, maintaining, inspecting, removing, repairing, replacing and adding from time to time water mains for the transmission and distribution of water.
The permanent easement was approved in exchange for a $25,000 payment, according to the ordinance.
The ordinance states the Borough Council found it to be in the best interests of Eatontown and its residents to authorize the conveyance of both easements to enhance the supply of water to Eatontown and its immediate vicinity.
