MARIA POTE, 100, of North Brunswick died March 31 at Franklin Convalescent Center. Born in Bogota, Colombia, she resided in Cleveland, North Brunswick and Lakewood before returning to North Brunswick. She was a baby-sitter for various friends and family, retiring in 1969. She was predeceased by her husband, Moses Rincon. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Cross of North Brunswick and Teresa Pote of Bogota, Colombia; a son, Alvaro Gamboa of Bogota; several grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered April 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, South Brunswick.
JAMES BREETVELD, 78, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, died March 26 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New York City, he resided in Kendall Park for the past 46 years. He was a theater critic for the Home News Tribune for more than 10 years, reviewing community theater performances in central New Jersey. Prior to that, he was chief of public information at UNICEF, New York City, for 20 years, retiring in 1985. His work with UNICEF took him and his family to India, where they resided for more than four years. He was the author of eight children’s books, most written as part of the Getting to Know series. He also contributed to The 100 Most Important People in the World. He is survived by his wife, Maria S. Breetveld of Kendall Park. A memorial service was offered at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, South Brunswick. CHARLES R. NENNINGER, 68, formerly of East Brunswick, died March 30 in Sarasota, Fla. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he was the owner of Charlie’s Barbershop, Milltown. Surviving are his wife, Mary Patrick Nenninger; a son, Donald Jakubowski of North Brunswick; two daughters, Diane Vorraso of the Mercerville section of Hamilton and Beth Pinkiewicz of Sarasota; a sister, Marie Britton of East Brunswick; two grandchildren; a step-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. A service is planned for 10 a.m. on April 5 at Simpson United Methodist Church, Old Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Newgrange School, 526 S. Olden Ave., Hamilton, NJ 08629.
