South Brunswick police honored for community event

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The South Brunswick Police Department was selected as one of the top five national award winners for its participation in the 32nd Annual National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program through the National Association of Town Watch.

South Brunswick received the top recognition in its category for New Jersey and ranked fifth nationally for National Night Out, an evening during this past summer that emphasizes police partnership with the community by providing an opportunity to meet neighbors, take a stand against crime and celebrate the community.

More than 6,000 people attended the Aug. 4 event at Rowland Park.

“This event brings together all aspects of our community from businesses, to neighborhood groups, to faith organizations. It highlights the partnership we work on building everyday,” Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said. “As our community has grown, so has the National Night Out celebration. It is one of the largest annual events held in the township. I want to thank the countless volunteers and dedicated officers who make this event such a success every year.”

South Brunswick’s National Night Out featured more than 30 tables with safety and resource information, exploration of policefire EMS vehicles, bouncy houses, games and rides. Guests enjoyed free hot dogs, popcorn, soda and ice pops.

“The award recognizes our achievement for the event, but it is the daily interaction and partnership with our community that is the true measure of success,” Hayducka said.
