WOODBRIDGE — The all-natural aspect of the franchise Doc Popcorn attracted Cherri Oglesby to the business.
That attraction led to Oglesby, of North Brunswick, opening a Doc Popcorn kiosk at the Woodbridge Center Mall on Oct. 13.
Oglesby said Doc Popcorn is the all-natural, healthier snack alternative.
“We make all our popcorn onsite,” she said. “We make the popcorn with 100 percent corn oil and we sell allnatural soda,” she said.
Among the flavors that customers can choose from are sweet butter, classic kettle, cheesy cheddar, better butter, triple white cheddar, salt-n-pepper, caramel kettle, hoppin’ jalapeño, and sinfully cinnamon.
Doc Popcorn began in 2003, according to the franchise’s website, when husbandand wife team Rob and Renée began blending and popping their own naturally flavored popcorn in the kitchen of their New York City apartment. Their mission was to create a delicious and healthier snack.
The couple then moved to Boulder, Colo., where they started selling their freshly popped, allnatural flavored popcorn in shopping malls, stadiums and Whole Foods locations throughout the state. Today they have approximately 41 franchise locations throughout the United States.
“Things have been going great,” Oglesby said. “We are in a perfect location next to the carousel and the Tiny Town children’s area.
“It’s a high-traffic area, and it’s the per- fect product — who doesn’t like popcorn?” she said with a smile.
Besides the location at the Woodbridge Center Mall in New Jersey, there is one on the Asbury Park boardwalk — Convention Hall inAsbury Park. These are the only two locations in New Jersey.
