NORTH BRUNSWICK — The Township Board of Education recognized several students involved with cross country during its public meeting Dec. 16.
The Linwood Middle School girls cross country team placed second at the Middlesex County meet this year.
Lexie Salomone placed second out of more than 80 participants, running 1.62 miles in 10 minutes and 20 seconds.
Jontae Hankins placed 19th, Alanna Piper was 20th, Molly Kuchler was 25th, Jaid Seel was 29th, Taylor Irizarry was 48th and Cindy Lee was 72nd.
The North Brunswick Township High School boys cross country team was named White Division champions, completing a 9-season. This was the first time in the school’s history the team went undefeated, and it was the first division championship since the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) was formed in 1995.
Six players from North Brunswick placed in the top 10 spots of the competition: Kyle Davis, Cullen Davis, Jerry Salvatore, Brian Adams, Kevin Diaz and Ryan Shamy.
Kyle and Cullen Davis were named to the All-Conference Team, and team captains Brian Adams and Jerry Salvatore were chosen as All-White Division Team selections.
In addition, special recognition was given to Kyle Davis for the GMC. He placed first at the Cougar Invitational, sixth at the Shore Coaches Invitational, first at the Old Bridge Invitational, fourth at the state sectional, sixth at the State Group IV championships, and 16th at the state Meet of Champions.
Team coach Mike Palazzo was also presented with a proclamation for being named the White Division and the GMC Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Palazzo noted that the high school girls cross country team received a White Division sportsmanship award.
Also at the meeting, a donation was made by the Joey Rogers Scholarship Fund to the Monarch Project at Linwood Middle School; a grant from PSEG for $3,000 was announced for Danita Guarino’s alternative-fuel modelcar building project at Linwood; and New Brunswick Elks Students of the Month Ruchi Sherikar and Dikshita Chittella were honored.
