SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The township school district just got a boost to its wallet.
The district was recently awarded nearly $300,000 in state aid. According to the Board of Education, the money may be used to acquire new teachers as well as equipment schools with AED defibrillators.
The aid came as part of the $5 million available in the Above Enrollment Growth Fund.
According to New Jersey Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, the state had certain funding left available after the budget legislative process ended this past spring.
Greenstein, who sits on the Assembly’s Budget Committee, said securing the money for South Brunswick was a priority for her and particularly for the 14th District, which needs additional money to help relieve property taxes.
Although Greenstein said she wished the amount of aid to South Brunswick could have been higher, she did feel the aid was a victory for students as well as taxpayers.
“This aid will be a great help as the South Brunswick district takes on the challenge of providing students an exceptional education while keeping a lid on local property taxes,” Greenstein said.
