SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Stopping crime just got a lot smarter.
The South Brunswick Police Department recently launched a new online reporting service, COPLOGIC, that will enable residents to log in and fill out online reports for nonviolent and “cold” complaints or crimes, according to a SBPD release.
The service is intended to cut down on time residents would spend going to the police station to report a crime or waiting for an officer to file a non-emergency report.
On the SBPD side, the service will free up officers and also reduce costs related to crimes where there is a low possibility of solving the crime.
When residents log on, they will be asked a series of questions to determine if their potential report can be filed through the service. Examples of acceptable reports include harassing phone calls, identity theft or fraud, lost property, theft, theft from a vehicle, and vandalism.
Once filed, a supervisor will review the report andmay contact the reporting resident for additional information.
Users can log on to the township’s home page at http://www.twp.south-brunswick.nj.us and select “Police Department” from the list of departments and then scroll down to click on the “On Line Reports” link.
To report non-emergency criminal activity that does not fit the criteria for online reporting, call the South Brunswick Police Department at 732-329-4646.
