A llentown High School’s Thomas Malik won the Mercer County American Legion League Senior Division Lowest ERA award with a 0.51 for the season.
Malik, 16, lives in Millstone and played for Allentown American Legion this summer.
Allentown Legion is one of 13 teams within the division, with the other teams consisting of Bordentown, Broad Street Park, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Hamilton, Ewing, Princeton, North Hamilton, Hightstown, Robbinsville, Hopewell, Lawrence and Trenton. Players range in age up to 19 years old. There were more than 80 pitchers in the league, but only 33 of them were in contention for this award, with pitchers needing to have more than 24 total innings pitches.
Malik had a 0.51 ERA, giving up only two earned runs in 27.3 innings pitched, with three complete games, two shutouts, 26 strikeouts, seven walks and a 4-0 record.
Allentown Legion had a 20-4 regular season record, coming in second place in their division and moving them into the district tournament play, where they went 2-2 and lost in the semifinals, cutting their hopes short of moving into the state tournament.
