Gardening workshops offered on May 23

Middlesex County’s Rutgers Cooperative Extension will host two free garden workshops on May 23 at the Middlesex County EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.

“Beyond Organics: Lawn & Landscapes Without Pesticides” will be held 10 a.m. to noon, teaching homeowners how to have a beautiful lawn and garden without depending upon synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

Topics covered will include practices for promoting healthy soil, organic fertilizers and amendments, and basic plant care. Dress for some outside field time.

“Container Gardening for All Seasons” will be held 1-3 p.m. for those whose living conditions limit gardening efforts.

Plants grown in containers or pots are less vulnerable to soil conditions, insects and disease, and they are potentially mobile. This lecture will cover the history of this growing technique and best practices for success.

To register for one or both workshops, call 732-398-5262 by May 15.
