PLUMSTED — A day set aside to celebrate the community will once again take over Plumsted’s downtown district during the New Egypt Fall Fest on Oct. 18.
From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., vendors, representatives of local organizations and familyfriendly activities will line Main and North Main streets as part of the annual festivities.
“We have local businesses that come in and have tables at the festival. Some of them will have their tables set up right in front of their stores,” Township Committeeman Jack Trotta said. “We have a nice, well-rounded group of businesses and organizations that will be represented that day.”
Spanning from the intersections of Evergreen Road and Main Street as well as North Main Street and Fort Avenue, the New Egypt Fall Fest will be a fun time for residents and visitors, Trotta said.
During the day, attendees can participate in a pumpkin decorating contest for children and a pie baking contest for adults. Uneaten slices of pie submitted to the contest will be sold, with proceeds going to the Plumsted Business and Merchants Association’s annual food drive.
Local organizations, including representatives of the state’s 12th Legislative District, the New Egypt Republican Club and the Union Transportation Trail group, will provide information about their respective efforts. The festival will feature live music, games and other activities.
Trotta said events like the Fall Fest and New Egypt Day are a great way to promote Plumsted’s downtown New Egypt district and the businesses that operate there.
“I think the Fall Fest is very important. It brings the locals out to see what’s going on in their area, and it brings in a lot of people from outside Plumsted and the surrounding area checking things out to see what we have,” he said. “That is great for business overall.”
