George E. Martz
Mr. Martz, 88, of North Brunswick, died Dec. 12 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Franklin Park prior to moving to North Brunswick two years ago. He was an electrician at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 675, Elizabeth, for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a former communicant of and usher at St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9111, Kendall Park, and the American Legion, South Brunswick. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Blackford Martz, in 1993; a brother, Joseph Martz; and a sister, Ann Carroll. He is survived by two daughters, Carol McCormick of Kilmarnock, Va., and Kathy Walsh of North Brunswick; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. Entombment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
Richard Peter VonDeesten
Mr. VonDeesten, 15, of South Brunswick, died Dec. 20 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong resident of South Brunswick. He was a sophomore at South Brunswick Township High School. He enjoyed playing guitar, golf, and the outdoors. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Claire and Richard Radcliffe. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Linda Radcliffe VonDeesten; a sister, Megan, at home; and his paternal grandparents, Erna and Richard VonDeesten, of East Brunswick. Visitation will be Dec. 23 from 2-4 p.m. at The Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.
Joseph “Jerry” Dicara
Mr. Dicara, 89, of Atco, died Dec. 16 at West Jersey Hospital, Berlin. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in North Brunswick prior to moving to Atco three years ago. He was a truck driver and union shop steward at Smith & Solomon, New Brunswick, retiring in the 1970s. Prior to that, he worked at Middlesex Transportation, New Brunswick. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and attained the rank of Corporal with decorations. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. He was a member of and past president of its Golden Age Club. He was also a member of Monsignor Pasquale Mugnano Council 6572 Knights of Columbus, and the North Brunswick Senior Citizens, where he held several offices. He enjoyed time with his family, and his religion. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Varga Dicara; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph J. and Suzanne Dicara, of Tabernacle; a sister and brother-in-law, Leonora and Angelo Coppola, of New Brunswick; and three grandsons. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Church. Entombment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
