Urinetown

TOP PICK

Monmouth University’s Department of Music and Theatre Arts presents the musical “Urinetown,” running March 4-12 in Woods Theatre.

“Urinetown” takes place in a future dystopia where a severe water shortage has made public pay-per-use toilets a legal necessity. The show is a satirical take on social change, corporate greed and Broadway musicals themselves.

The musical stars Bobby Strong, played by Brandon Wiener as the hero, and the romantic ingénue, Hope Cladwell, played by Zoe Bulitt. Kelly Thomas plays Little Sally, one of the narrators. Nick Zaccario is Officer Lockstock, with Mahalia Jackson as his assistant, Officer Barrell. Stephen Lang plays the CEO, Mr. Cladwell. And Courtney Moore plays Penelope Pennywise, who is in charge of one of the public toilets. In addition, the cast includes Solomon Adams, Mark Cayne, Robert Davies, Nicole DeSarno, Patrick Hall, Bethany Hintze, Evan Kudish, Natalie Mallamaci, Chloe Meyer, Erin Noone, Dreni Rezari, Megan Roberts, Vanessa Tobia and Courtney Buell.

“Urinetown” runs at 8 p.m. March 4-7 and 10-12, with a matinee at 3 p.m. March 8. Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors, and $10 for high school and non-Monmouth University college students. Some of the material may not be suitable for under children who have not entered high school. Woods Theatre is on the Monmouth University campus, 400 Cedar Ave., West Long Branch.
