JACKSON – Pandemonium will make its way to Six Flags Great Adventure next year with the debut of what park executives are calling “the most unique scream machine” that will have riders flipping over themselves to try.
Total Mayhem, which is described as a “4-D, free-fly coaster,” will be the 14th roller coaster featured at the Jackson theme park.
“We are thrilled to unveil one of the newest concepts in roller coaster engineering with Total Mayhem,” Great Adventure President John Fitzgerald said. “It is the perfect addition to our dynamic lineup of award-winning roller coasters because this ride delivers next-generation, cutting-edge thrills.”
According to a description of Total Mayhem, riders will sit in cars equipped with face-off “wing seats” on either side of the track before being lifted up a 12-story sheer incline. During the ride, the cars will roll along a “massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box tract frame” as each seat flips at least six times during the ride.
Park executives said the ride will feature unexpected drops, including two 90-degree “raven” drops that will simulate the feeling of weightlessness for riders.
“Six Flags Great Adventure’s world renowned coaster collection will expand into the realm of insanity – or ‘spinsanity’ – with this new vertical coaster that delivers gravity defying somersaults with utter unpredictability,” Fitzgerald said.
One feature of the ride is the configuration of the seats. Since the seats are on either side of the track, rather than above or below, Total Mayhem will have an unpredictable nature to it “outside the confines of a traditional track,” park executives said.
To further sell the weightlessness and flight aspect of the ride, Total Mayhem will use a special magnetic technology to propel the cars, providing a smooth experience, according to park executives.
Total Mayhem is expected to open to the public next spring.
