ELECTION 2007: Trout defeats Cocuzza in sheriff race
Republican Deborah Trout is the winner in the race for Hunterdon County sheriff. Democrat Bruce Cocuzza, the Lambertville police director, conceded the race to Ms. Trout at approximately 9:30 p.m., with 110 of 114 districts reporting. The final vote count was Trout, 15,994; Cocuzza, 13,410. See this week’s Beacon for details.

Upper Freehold says yes to open space tax
Voters in the township opted to increase their open space tax contributions by two cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The measure passed narrowly, 905-877 and is expected to add $100 a year to the owner of the average-assessed townhip property of $519,000. See Thursday’s Messenger-Press for the full story.
